Flora Fortuna is a self-published zine presenting a retrospective look at a series of monochrome analogue images captured during the COVID-19 pandemic in a garden just outside Cairo. This period coincided with my rediscovering the love of photography as a meditative practice - one that forced me to slow down and appreciate, or at least acknowledge, the world surrounding me.
The images, published for the first time, are an homage to the botanical origins of the first ‘photobooks’ and to my mother, the gardener. They are an appeal for the importance of preserving publicly accessible urban green spaces, made by a resident of a city where they have all been locked away or replaced by concrete.
